Choosing a hair salon in London can feel overwhelming, from behind the chair, I see it all the time.
New clients often come in unsure, sometimes after experiences where they felt rushed, unheard, or left with something that didn’t quite fit their life.
Here’s a little honest advice from my side of the mirror.
- A good haircut or colour isn’t just about how it looks when you leave the salon. It’s about how it works for you the next day, and the weeks after. The best results come from a proper conversation , not just “what do you want today?” but how you actually wear your hair, how much time you spend on it, and what you feel comfortable maintaining.
- Trends can be inspiring, but they shouldn’t override what suits you. Hair should feel like you, just refined, elevated, and easier to live with.
- Low-maintenance doesn’t mean low quality. In fact, it’s often the opposite. Thoughtful cutting and well-placed colour should grow out softly, so you’re not constantly needing to come back in to fix harsh lines or faded tones.
Another thing people don’t always realise: the products used matter just as much as the technique. Professional, salon-quality products protect the long-term condition of your hair, not just the finish on the day.
And finally, the environment matters more than you think. You should never feel like you’re on a conveyor belt. A salon should feel calm, considered, and somewhere you can actually switch off for a moment.
