There is a moment – often gradual;
- 1. Your ends feel rough or look uneven . When the ends start to appear dry, frayed, or thinner than the rest of your hair, it’s usually a sign of split ends. These don’t repair themselves and will continue travelling up the hair if not removed.
- 2. Your hair has lost its shape. A well-executed cut should fall into place naturally. If your style feels heavy, flat, or unbalanced, or you can’t recreate how it used to sit, the structure has likely grown out.
- 3. Styling takes more effort than usual. If you’re spending more time blow-drying, straightening, or trying to “fix” your hair, it’s often because the cut is no longer working with you.
- 4. Your layers feel disconnected or bulky. You might notice certain areas feeling too thick, while others feel thin or shapeless. This imbalance is a clear sign the cut needs refining.
- 5. Your hair tangles more easily. Dry, damaged ends tend to catch and knot more quickly, especially when brushing or washing.
- 6. You’re tying it up more often . One of the biggest indicators. If you’re defaulting to a bun or ponytail because your hair doesn’t feel right down, it’s usually time.
- 7. It’s been 8–12 weeks (or longer) . Even low-maintenance cuts benefit from light reshaping within this window to keep them looking intentional rather than overgrown.
